Can you see the layers of my pain
Can you see the despair in my eyes
Can you see the hopelessness of my soul
Or the dying of my spirit
Can you feel the ridges of my scars
And the texture of my wounds
Can you feel the weight of my tears
Or the heaviness of my sighs
Can you see the hole loved ones dug into my heart
Can you see the dread on my face
Can you see I’m washed of color
And striped of power
Can you see the darkness surrounding me
And the bars trapping me
Can you see the guard standing before me
Or the guard standing behind me
Can you see the guard standing to my right
Or the guard standing to my left
Can you see what they’re doing
Can you sense their deception
Can you feel what they’re hiding
Are they hiding me
Or the me I use to be
Are the hiding the me I’ll never be
Or just the me you’ll never see?
